First Ever Book On Dubai World Records Released.

Dubai - A City Making History

Dubai, UAE - 30 March, 2002 (PRN):The first-ever book on the world records created and broken by Dubai in different walks of life, from architecture to aviation and cuisine to cross-breeding technique, has been published by a Dubai Media City-based company.

The 108-page glossy hardcover book has been brought out by Nexus FZ LLC, a publishing, media relations and events management company.

'A CITY MAKING HISTORY' has been dedicated to His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and the UAE Minister of Defence.

"It is (a) wonderful (book on Dubai), "Mohammed Al Gergawi, the first CEO of Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) and former Director General of Dubai Technology, Electronic Commerce and Media Free Zone Authority (DTEC-MFZA), remarked after receiving the first copy of the book.

The Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), Department of Civil Aviation, Emirates Group, DSF, Dubai Municipality and Jumeirah International are among the organisations that extended visual support for the book.

The DSF also permitted the display of the 60 cms by 84 cms mounted banners of the book's front page at the five world records created by Dubai at the Union House.

The coffee-table volume offers interesting facts and figures, accompanied by colour photographs, of world's first, biggest, tallest and other global achievements of Dubai. The book has been released to coincide with the DSF-2002.

The book is being marketed as an inexpensive yet high-quality souvenir by tourists, travel and hospitality sectors.

The Arabic edition is planned to be released in May to coincide with the Arabian Travel Market (ATM-2002) and Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS-2002).

The debut edition has a print run of 10,000 copies. Some records have not been included in the book for the purpose of factual verification and lack of quality photographs. The new five world records of Dubai will be included in the next edition of the book which will be updated annually.

Raj H Siddam, Managing Director of Nexus FZ LLC said, "We firmly believe that this benchmark book will help further promote Dubai's image and appeal abroad. We were surprised to know that even long-time residents have little knowledge about these unique world records of Dubai. This book is a refreshingly different marketing tool to promote Dubai."

He says a market survey strongly suggested the need for a book that reflects the true image, vibrancy and dynamism of Dubai, while the market has only reprints of titles published some 10 to 15 years ago.

"This book serves as an eye-opener for those who think there is nothing in Dubai other than the round-the-year sunshine and pristine beaches besides the world's tallest hotel and the world's richest horse race," says the author, Mohammed Abdul Mannan, a senior reporter of Khaleej Times in Dubai. The 37-year-old writer hails from Hyderabad in India.

"Dubai has to its credit over 100 world records, including a dozen Guinness Book of World Records-linked feats hosted during the DSF in the past. These achievements are truly significant considering the relatively small size and age of Dubai," says Abdul Mannan who has written two books prior coming to Dubai for the first time in 1992.

Each chapter of the book offers interesting information about the world records set or broken in Dubai, the people who worked behind them and their significance to the world.
