America Online Latin America Establishes Online Usage ![]() Records in Its Sports Areas With the Excitement and Passion of the First Round of the World Cup FT. LAUDERDALE, Florida - June 22, 2002 (PRN): America Online Latin America (NASDAQ:AOLA), one of the leading interactive services providers in Latin America, today announced that it has reached new online usage records on the sports area of its services. Internal results released by AOL Latin America reported an increase of more than 400% in online usage and more than 300% in unique visitors and pageviews on the special World Cup areas of the localized Brazil, Mexico and Argentina services, as compared to the period before the games began. This World Cup area was created within the general sports area of the services, which itself had an increase of more than double the normal online usage. Helping to drive this traffic have been creative promotions developed jointly with leading multinational brands such as Epson, Chrysler, Ford, and Samsung, as well as with leading local marketers including Embratel, Credicard and Serfin, among others. These advertisers are participating in a variety of creative promotions that go beyond the typical advertising banners by providing members access to online games and interactive programs that offer prizes and products. In addition, AOL Latin America has created a special World Cup section on its WAP portal for the region's three largest markets, Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina, to provide consumers with access to the latest scores, game results, and general World Cup news and information from their WAP-enabled mobile phones and other mobile devices. Through the two-week period of the first round of the World Cup, there was a significant increase of access to the WAP portal to get game results and information. Eduardo Hauser, Vice President of AOL Services for AOL Latin America, said: "AOL Latin America is committed to providing the best possible interactive experience to our members. We have been successful in integrating the World Cup, an exciting and passionate global event, into the daily lives of our members, making it an immediate and personal interactive experience. The sharp usage increase in the sports areas of our services underscores the fact that our members rely on their AOL service more and more everyday to get timely and relevant information. It is a clear indication of how Latin Americans are embracing the online medium and that the Internet has joined other mass media in the region to provide news and entertainment." Peter Blacker, Vice President of Interactive Marketing for AOL Latin America, said: "We are very pleased with the support we have received from such prestigious global and local brands on the sponsorship of our World Cup content areas. Together we have developed some interesting and innovative promotions to give our members a more dynamic advertising format. Our offering has been well received as proven by the combination of our member's acceptance of the content area and the addition of world-class advertisers to our efforts." AOL Latin America is showcasing World Cup content on its regular online services with coverage before, during and after each game. It is covering breaking stories on all 32 competing nations, World Cup history, profiles of members' favorite soccer stars -- both past and present -- up-to-the-minute results and standings, match previews and post-game reactions, weekly polls and message boards, online game offerings, and much more. In addition, it is hosting regular World Cup chats, and is providing members with the tools to set up personal World Cup Web pages and AOL e-mail groups so friends can share their predictions and reactions to the tournament's developments.
