London, England - August 12, 2002 (PRN):Macrovision UK Ltd., a subsidiary of Macrovision Corporation (Nasdaq: MVSN) and the leading developer and supplier of digital rights management (DRM) and copy protection products, today announced that it will be attending IBC this year in Amsterdam, and will be demonstrating its latest DRM solution, MacroSAFE™, together with its core video copy-protection products.

The Macrovision stand at IBC is in Hall 2, Stand 111. iVAST™, Macrovision’s MPEG-4 technology partner, and Widevine Technologies, Macrovision’s realtime data encryption technology partner, will demonstrate their technologies in the Macrovision booth.

MacroSAFE is a multi-layered, IP-based software solution that guarantees the secure distribution and management of video, audio, and graphics, and other multimedia applications to a variety of IP-based devices, including PCs and set-top boxes. It conforms to the MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 standards. The system includes AES and triple DES encryption, built-in tamper-hardening and separation of licenses and content to increase security and flexibility. MacroSAFE’s architecture supports revocation and renewability of licences in case of security violations, as well as ease of implementation at content owner level.

“Macrovision’s MacroSAFE DRM solution provides the right combination of flexibility, transparency, security and investment protection to ensure the safe and secure packaging, distribution and consumption of high value digital content throughout the DRM commercial value chain,” said Kirby Kish, Macrovision’s director of digital video technologies.

MacroSAFE consists of a set of tools and products that enables rights holders, service providers, distributors and retailers to create and support a wide range of business models for the secure distribution of rich media to a very broad or a very targeted audience.

MacroSAFE consists of three major components: software tools for preparing content, web services-based software for the secure delivery of content and licenses to clients, and a secure client that establishes an “island of trust” for the safe consumption of content.

Macrovision is well known for the analog protection technology that has been successfully implemented on VHS, DVD, and digital pay-per-view platforms to prevent unauthorised copies being created on home recorders.
