GoScan, An Affordable Document Service Bureau

GoHook's latest product, GoScan, a Web-based document scanning, hosting, searching and archive service, is now available at www.GoScan.com. Attorneys, Insurance Firms, Librarians, Doctors, Brokers-anyone who accumulates thousands or millions of hardcopy documents and needs to search them-would benefit from GoScan's service bureau.
"The documents never leave your office," says Gabe Gabriel, Director of Sales for GoHook. "If you have a scanner and Internet access, GoScan does the rest."
Customers scan documents locally using GoScan's workstation client, which supports all Twain-compliant devices including scanners from Xerox, Hewlett Packard, Cannon, Epson and many other manufactures. The documents are uploaded, indexed and instantly available via a secure, password-protected Website.
"It's as easy as faxing," says Gabriel. "Our clients upload their time-sensitive documents and minutes later they’re searching them." Search results may be sorted by date, size or title using a familiar, Google-like interface.
Using GoScan’s fast and proprietary four-step process, data are typically available in less than ten minutes:
1. Scan. Operators feed documents into the scanner
2. Upload. The GoScan client captures the TIF image and uploads them to GoScan.com using secure transfer protocols
3. Convert. Using the best-in-class OCR (optical character recognition) engine, documents are converted to ASCII text, HTML and PDF formats
4. Search. Using a free-text Web browser interface similar to popular search engines, users may securely search and display their documents.
Moreover, GoScan automatically builds a unique filename on-the-fly to better store and retrieve like-documents, so that paperwork from similar projects, cases, manuscripts, books and clients are easily collated. “GoScan’s file naming scheme creates a permanent, multi-part record key,” says Paul Smietan, Senior Technology Partner at GoHook. “Selecting similar documents is a snap—it’s like your company’s own ‘Library of Congress’ at your fingertips.”

Customers are charged an affordable per-gigabyte monthly fee, or larger installations may license the end-to-end GoScan client-server solution.
